Art meets Craft: Realism/Embroidery

For the past six months this painting has been sitting on my easel in the corner of my apartment staring at me. Originally intended to be another Kahlo inspired self-portrait featuring my cat Judy, it has been sitting stagnant for too long. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get it to work. I would pull out my brushes and palette here and there and mess with it, but nothing ever really took.

I decided it can’t sit in the corner anymore, so I’ve taken drastic measures that have paid off both visually and emotionally. I am now combining what will (hopefully) be realism with the traditional craft of embroidery. Using embroidery floss I am taking the outline I originally drew of Judy and making her into a blast of visual and touchable color.

So go ahead, please touch the art.
