In Memoriam: Junk near the Trunk (of my car)

In my super fancy studio apartment that I share with the overweight feline, Judy Puff Fluff, there is a climate controlled parking garage on the ground level. I pay extra for an assigned spot down there to avoid dealing with the whims of mother nature. This works out great for me because I can store  boxes of art materials (and my mannequin, Diane) in the front of my spot and save space the apartment.

Much to the chagrin of my neighbors and to my endless amusement, the parking spot next to mine is not quite as neat. It also never contains a car and is filled with what most people would consider junk, or even trash. As an artist (and as a person with a dry sense of humor) I find the junk simultaneously hilarious and intriguing. There’s everything from several books of wall paper samples to an antique armchair that is missing a huge chunk (seen in the featured image of this blog post).

After receiving an email reminding us to keep our garage spaces tidy, it seems there must have been complaints by other neighbors about the disorder. Now the chaos that I so adored has been replaced. All of the beautiful, random objects have been gathered in the middle of the space and covered with a large canvas sheet. As a tribute, I’ve created a video piece intended to be projected on the wall in my parking spot. A fitting memorial from a passive aggressive neighbor in rebellion of the order instituted by the apartment complex.

Rest in peace hoarded junk.
